A Common Access Card (CAC) is a smart card that can store a range of information to help you identify yourself in various situations. It is resistant to identity fraud, tampering, and exploitation. The card also offers enhanced physical and logical access to facilities and systems.

The CAC also contains an EDIPI number, which is used to verify the card owner’s identity. In addition, the CAC contains signature and encryption certificates, which can be used to sign documents or encrypt email. It can be used on virtually all modern computer operating systems. However, it requires special readers and middleware. The CAC is also designed to lock out if you enter the incorrect PIN three times. If you receive this error message, you must visit a RAPIDS site and verify your fingerprint.

Your Common Access Card (CAC) contains sensitive information, including financial data and personal details. It is protected with a PIN, which only you know. This PIN allows you to access the applications and secret keys stored on your CAC. Only authorized personnel who have been granted access can view the information on your CAC.

If you forget your password or get locked out, the ICOTS system will require you to answer security questions before resetting your password or providing an account reset link. Your account will be locked if you fail to provide the correct answers. This lockout lasts 24 hours or until a state administrator manually resets your security questions. In the meantime, you can try to unlock your CAC by reporting to the nearest ID card center.

The CAC is an identity credential that enables its holders to access a host of applications and services, including DEERS, myPay, and the internet. It can also be used to authenticate users to physical/logical access systems such as food service, training, dental, and medical.

It is important to note that the information stored on a CAC is confidential. This means that you should never share your PIN with anyone, and you should always keep it in a secure place. Additionally, you should not modify, counterfeit, lend, or sell your CAC.

If your CAC becomes blocked, it can only be unblocked at an ID card office (RAPIDS). You will need to go to the nearest RAPIDS site and bring two forms of identification. The RAPIDS VO will verify your identity using your fingerprint and then help you reset your PIN. Currently, there is no way to reset a CAC PIN remotely.

The information stored on the CAC is privileged and classified and can only be accessed by authorized personnel using a PIN. You should never share your PIN with anyone and keep it secure. Any willful altering, damaging, lending, counterfeiting, or use of a CAC without authorization is punishable by law.

If you get the error message ‘CAC Blocked’ or ‘CAC PIN Locked’, you must report to the nearest ID card center to have your CAC unblocked or pin reset. The CAC owner must be present for this appointment and bring a photo ID. The RAPIDS site VO will verify your identity by matching your fingerprint against the one that was captured and stored in DEERS when you were issued your CAC.
